Romans 1:16
I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes.
I remember a story in the Soviet Union about soldiers going into a church. I don't know if it was a true story but it certainly is applicable to this verse.
The story was about soldiers who stormed an underground church. They held everyone at gunpoint and shouted that if you really believed in Jesus Christ, stay and die for him, otherwise leave the church.
Many people fled for their lives and when a small contingent was left, the soldiers put their weapons down and said they could finally worship Jesus Christ with true believers.
What if it happened to you? It happened to Cassie Bernall. At gunpoint, she was not ashamed of the Gospel even unto death in the Columbine High School library.
We don't expect these kinds of extreme cases to present themselves in our everyday life but we should ask ourselves a question. In not so extreme cases, what keeps us in shame of the Gospel?
We know we should have said something to they guy at the gas station but hours later the shame still haunts us.
If I had a dollar for every missed opportunity to witness the Gospel, I could probably personally finance a mission trip!
Come to think about it, that could be a great tactic to help ourselves. If you see someone that you could witness to, and you don't, add a dollar to a mission account. Then each month, send that money to someone that will diligently invest it in saving souls!
