Hebrews 10:30-31
We know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people." It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Wait a minute, is the author of Hebrews talking about our God the god of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob? The one who so loved the world that gave his only begotten son? Why would it be dreadful to fall into His hands?
In the context of this verse the author is talking about the same God. He is letting us know that as we know God for his agape love and comfort, we need to also be aware that he is the ultimate judge. His hands will pass judgment in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ and he will separate the true believers from the rest of the world.
As Jesus said (seven times), there will be "weeping and gnashing of the teeth" as many fall into a dreadful state of eternal torment delivered by the only one who is rightful in vengeance, our Father in Heaven.
So in view of this, it is dangerous to have a laxed mentality about living our lives under the Lord. We should listen to the words in Acts 3:19: "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord."
