You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.
When you have been in a dark room for a long while, going outside can make you feel exposed. Your eyes are squinting and perhaps you even look for some shade to get a break from the brightness of the sun.
I think in the same way we subconsciously look for shade when the glory of God exposes us. Our flesh likes the shade, it doesn't like exposure to the light, the glory of God.
As we find a shaded tree thoughts of sitting down come to our minds and perhaps we find temporary comfort in some measure of darkness.
But we have to remember that the spirit world is not like that at all. The light is within us. We are the ones who shine because of Him who dwells in us. So when we head for that shaded tree, darkness will run from it.
If you are truly born again, then your light will "shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life." Philippians 2:15-16
