Romans 12:4-5
Just as each of us has a one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
Think about your hands. Two independent members yet they work in concert with each other to do great things. Maybe your hands can program the latest high tech application. Maybe they can safely drive a school bus full of children. Maybe they feed thousands of people. My point is that although they are separated, they work together to do God's work.
Likewise is you and I. Two separate independent people but controlled by the head, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Now think about this: what if one of your hands really started to work on its own. Rebelling against you. Your brain tells it to go left, it goes right. While your left hand is trying to pick up something the right all the sudden starts striking it.
That's a very dysfunctional picture but as hands of God, you and I can behave in the same way. This is why its really not about us. It is about the body and how we want to be part of God's work.
The only way we can be coordinated as a body is to plug into the command center of life that is our Lord Jesus. He is the brain that can sort through the incredible array of organs in his body. If we willfully submit to his commands, then we are comforted by the graceful movements of the body.
So what controls you today?
